Week 5...

Pesky rain's still causing us issues. Even tho it has physically stopped raining the aftermath is still stalling the process. The concreter is due tomorrow and in a bid to avoid any issues with access we decided to make a start on our driveway. At this stage we have just got direct access to where the carport will be with the intentions of expanding and include a turning circle closer to the end of the build.

Eventually where that pile of soil is will also be dug out and be a part of the driveway/turning circle.

There are still a few decisions to be made. We will need to put in some kind of retaining wall on the west side of the driveway and then there is the question of what to surface the road with (currently we have temporary road base to aid with access). But at least for now, no-one is getting bogged and work should be able to proceed without delay (hopefully).

I'm thinking something along these lines for the retaining wall. It's going to be about a 20 meter wall so price will have to come into it somewhere. So more research is needed I guess.

I thought I would also share with you our most recent purchase. We bought a 4-seater, a 3-seater and large arm chair from Schots Home Emporium whilst we were away. Super comfy. Lucky we have a storage locker.

weeks 2, 3 & 4

Sorry for the lack of recent posts, we've been away on holidays for a couple of weeks on a house boat and visiting my old stomping ground in Mildura.

Meanwhile back at home this happened...

a MASSIVE east coast low (followed by a second 2 weeks later)...

For those of you who don't recognise this, it is our local wharf, slipway and surrounding car park.

and this is the fishing platforms, car park and one of the main roads.

nearly 8 inches of rain over one weekend made for a very wet Mallacoota.

Jason helping to clean up the aftermath.

Unfortunately for us this also meant a flooded excavation site :( Oh the joys of building a house in winter. Luckily the excavator put in some good drains but unluckily all the under-slab trenches were still open and quickly filled with water.

A week down the track and finally it is starting to dry out. We now have the sewage connected and the power box in.

Even if we did finish it off in the dark.
Hoping to see the concreters mid next week to start boxing up the slab. Then I'm praying for full steam ahead - frames up and roof on!

Week 1...

So one week in a it is really starting to feel like progress now.

The cut is finished and we have ended up with a great area at the front (or what we call the front but is actually the back) of the house which will extend off our alfresco area nicely.

They are busily working on the set our now too. There is spray paint and string lines in all sorts of colours going in all kinds of directions.

This will one day will be our bedroom.

Luckily I knew to expect it (as I lived through a house build as a kid) but I really hate how it looks so small at this stage. It doesn't even look like we will fit through the doorways LOL!

Oh yeah and we have a TAP!

As you can see above we had a fair dose of rain right in the middle of all the digging. TYPICAL!

Hoping for a slab in the next week or two. Fingers crossed the rain holds off.
